The fine print

The disclaimer.

What Block Out the Noise is, what it isn’t, and when to reach out for more support. Last updated October 20, 2026.

I created Block Out the Noise to make real, practical help for anxiety easier to find. I care about getting that right, so I want to be clear about what this is, what it isn’t, and when you deserve more support than a video or a blog post can give.

Where this applies

This disclaimer covers Block Out the Noise everywhere it shows up: this website, the podcast, YouTube, social media, the newsletter, free downloads and anything else Block Out the Noise, LLC creates.

Education, not therapy

Everything I share is for education and encouragement. It is general information, not medical or mental health advice, diagnosis or treatment.

I’m a licensed clinical professional counselor, and I bring that training to my work here. Even so, a video or an article can’t know your history, your health or what you’re carrying right now. That’s why nothing here can take the place of care from a professional who knows you.

No therapist-client relationship

Watching, listening, reading, signing up, commenting or messaging me does not make me your therapist. It does not create a therapist-client relationship with me or with Davis-Smith Mental Health, my counseling practice.

My counseling license is from Illinois. Therapy through Davis-Smith Mental Health is only available to people in Illinois, and only after its own intake process.

Please check with your own provider

  • Talk with your doctor or therapist about what’s right for you, especially before starting, stopping or changing any medication or treatment.
  • Never ignore professional advice, or put off getting help, because of something you heard or read here.
  • If something here brings up more than you can handle on your own, that’s a sign to reach out, not a sign you did it wrong.

If you’re in crisis

Block Out the Noise is not a crisis service, and I can’t respond to emergencies. If you’re in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, contact emergency services or a local helpline right away. You don’t have to go through it alone.

Everyone’s anxiety is different

What helps one person may not help another, so I can’t promise any particular result. Take what fits, leave what doesn’t, and go at your own pace.

Stories and examples

Some of what I share includes stories and examples. If I ever share something from my work as a therapist, the details are changed so no one can be identified.

Guests and other voices

When a guest joins me, or when I point you to someone else’s book, video or tool, their views are their own. Mentioning a person, product or resource is not a promise that it’s right for you.

Changes

I may update this disclaimer from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
